Wretch 32 Featuring Shakka - Blackout

Wretch 32 is back with his new single Blackout featuring Shakka

This is a collaboration that we have been waiting FOREVER for. Homegrown talents Wretch 32 and Shakka have teamed up on new single ‘Blackout’. Set to be first single of the ‘Traktor’ star’s new album due for release later this year, ‘Blackout’ features the unique vocals of the star of our favorite Shakkapella’s, Shakka. The Knox Brown produced track follows the high-powered Kano sample Pop and is certainly another deep track from the North London artist.

Blackout sounds pretty good. If the other tracks on Wretch’s forthcoming album are of this standard then I might be persuaded to purchase a copy. If you didn’t hear it’s premiere last night on MistaJam’s Radio1xtra show, then listen to the future hit here below.

The Jacksons Rock Manchester

"They wanted to tear down this family's name," the four remaining Jacksons told this paper recently, referring to the controversies which dogged their late brother Michael before his untimely death in 2009 – everything from unproven child molestation allegations to plastic surgery, iffy records and chimpanzees.

However, the Unity Tour – their first since 1984 – is their long overdue attempt to restore the Jackson surname to its once unassailable position as the most famous family name in pop, synonymous with some of the greatest pop music ever made.

This hour and a half long show threw everything into the task: Jacksons' songs, Michael's songs, 10-minute funk jams and stellar early 70s hits from when the four men onstage (plus Michael, then a golden-voiced child) formed the Jackson 5, and Motown label recordings such as I Want You Back and ABC laid the blueprints for how so much pop sounds today, from hip hop to One Direction.

The Jacksons were never quite the same once their little brother embarked on the solo career which peaked with 1983's Thriller – still the biggest selling album of all-time - and this gig somehow reached another level when he was in the room in some form – whether as songwriter or on screens, which prompted audience cries of "We love you Michael".

But opening stompers Can You Feel It – the 1980 hit which was recycled by acid house acts a decade later – and an uproarious Blame It on the Boogie provided early reminders of the Jacksons' formidable strengths without him, and turned the Apollo into a giant disco.

Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon now have a combined age of 233, but, in their glittering outfits, from Row Z at least, the world's biggest ever boy band barely looked older than Take That, had better voices and pulled off spinning dance moves which would put their younger successors in hospital.

As their musicians skipped from funk to soul to rock to honeyed balladry, there was an innocence about songs such as Heaven Knows I Love You Girl and Michael's blissful Rock With You which combined with nostalgic images – the Jacksons on the cover of long-forgotten pop mags, or piled up asleep together on a bus as unwitting children in the midst of a global pop phenomenon. They were never a political band, but Man Of War sent a timeless pacifist message backed by the now rarely seen logo of the Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament.

There were moments of real emotion. A near-tearful Jermaine sang Michael's 1991 song Gone To Soon under images of his departed sibling, and the same brother's show stopping, massed arms-waving rendition of I'll Be There touched places few pop songs can reach.

I Want You Back may have been played "like we did it on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1969" but deserved more than a fleeting place in an admittedly sublime Jackson 5 medley. A Jermaine solo spot felt like a minor lull but operated as a calm before the storm. Michael's demise meant he never got to make his own live comeback, but extended funk renditions of Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' and Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough provided a glimpse of what might have been, before the Jackson's own Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground) completed the process of quaking the building to its foundations.

Before this tour, Jackie Jackson talked of wanting to honour their catalogue and their brother with "integrity." When the last controversy has been forgotten and there are no longer any Jacksons left to sing, their songs will be remembered.

Cymbals - The Natural World

For their disco-tinged new single, this geeky-looking Londoners have decided to hand the video over to a professional dancer.

Here are a number of reasons why someone might want to start a band: fame, money, drugs, sex appeal. London-based four-piece Cymbals just wanted to have a bit of fun with some like-minded friends. "You get together, have a drink, write songs and make other people listen to music you like," they told Dummy magazine before the release of their 2011 Talking Heads-influenced debut album, Unlearn. If anything they seem to be having more fun now than they were back then – their sound having evolved from slightly scrappy punk-funk into sleaker, almost disco-infused house and synth-pop.While last year's nine-minute long Like an Animal single seemingly covered every musical genre imaginable, they've streamlined their sound to perfection on the glistening The Natural World, which, as with Like an Animal, was produced by Dreamtrak, AKA Oli Horton (Teeth, Queen of Hearts). For the video the band called on singer Jack Cleverly's childhood friend and dancer, Jaime, who he'd known from his time spent in Paris. "Much later, I had the crazy idea of having him dance to one of our songs, and I'm a bit overwhelmed that we actually managed to make it all happen," Cleverly explains. "We talked through the lyrics and had long conversations about what they might mean, and Jaime built up the choreography closely inspired by the song." To be honest, we'd probably avoid trying to copy any of the moves yourselves, but the song's chorus definitely lends itself to some old school last song at the indie disco going.

MS MR - Fantasy

MS MR Release Their New Single

After releasing their latest track, Fantasy, only a few short weeks ago, MS MR have quickly followed up with the video for the song and it's pretty fantastic. The clip features cheerleaders puking glitter, a bad ass looking group of old ladies and the duo singing along in a diner.

Her voice sounds full and lovely, the piano and hand claps are infectious and it just has the feel of a well assembled pop song. “Fantasy” is the first single and title cut from their debut album, due to arrive this spring. The song is a dark emotional twist on her perfect reality and fantasy. I feel that the  cheerleaders throwing up glitter points out that not everything is perfect and nice to look at.

This is great song, I heard it a week ago and now the music video makes it even better, her voice is stunning and I haven't taken this track of repeat for the past hour. I highly recommend you listen to this great song.

Of Monsters And Men - King And Lionheart [Music Video]

Of Monsters and Men have released a visual masterpiece to accompany their beautiful track, King and Lionheart, off their album My Head Is An Animal. The song is the fourth single from the Icelandic band’s debut album, which made them one of the most buzzed about new bands last year.
The heart-wrenching music video, which features acting and visual effects worthy of a feature film, tells the story of a young girl who is separated from her brother. The audience is given a glimmer of hope when glowing animals attempt to rescue the children from their captors, leaving viewers on the edge of their seat up to the closing notes.
Of Monsters and Men is an amiable group of six day dreamers who craft folk pop songs. But last year, the normally mild-mannered six pack transformed into total rock stars after stomping out their competition during Músiktilraunir, a yearly battle of the bands in their native Iceland.
Of Monsters and Men became one of my favourite bands once I heard Little Talks a year ago. When they released their new album, My Head Is An Animal, I played King and Lionheart the most and now they have released the new music video, I like it even more. The video provides the emotional song with some emotional song to go with it.
I cant wait for them to release the music video for the single, Six Weeks.

Boyce Avenue Review

This band can cover any song on this earth.
Literally. They have covered songs such as Rihanna's "We Found Love" and The Calling's "Where Ever You Will Go".  And they do so with pure class.
The band consists of 3 brothers - Alejandro, Daniel and Fabian Manzano. Alejandro is the heart and soul because he literally has the most beautiful voice you will ever hear in your life. He's got a great range and is just so easy to listen to it is a true delight to hear his work.
The band began on YouTube and did so well that currently they are doing tours all around the UK and Germany. I in fact will be buying one of their tickets as soon as possible!

If i was you I would go onto YouTube search 'Boyce Avenue' and sit there and marvel in their excellence. They have not made a single bad cover so it
doesn't even matter what song you choose.
Once you've heard them, leave a comment below telling me what song is your favourite. Enjoy!

One of my favourite covers of theirs.

Album Review - Usher - "Looking 4 Myself"

Usher's 7th album 'Looking 4 Myself'' is his most distinctive yet. In fact, he has pretty much created his own genre of revolutionary pop! There are a world of different genres in this 14 track album, including electronic dance, R&B, dub step, pop and hip-hop.

He had worked with some top class producers such as will.i.am and Swedish House Mafia. However with these producers it  is unfortunate that too much of the good music is drowned by 150beats per minutes stomping all over it!

In his first song with will.i.am they have been able to twist Billy Joel's 'Uptown Girl' into a club song with hard beats and a lot of dubstep drops, weird right?

Usher's earlier club tracks really helped this album progress songs like 'Yeah', 'OMG' and 'Caught Up'. On 'Looking 4 Myself' the track  most like these classics is a song called 'Show Me'. Which is one of the best songs on the album in my opinion.

However Usher has included some twisted songs in this album. Like 'Twisted'. The rhythm is very strange and a bit hard to get by.

I do think that Usher is 'Looking 4 himself' and no wonder! Since the crazy 17 years since his debut album, which was released when he was 16! He has gone through 2 very very public breakups, like when he divorced from his wife in 2009, it fueled his album 'Raymond vs Raymond'.

In 'Looking 4 Myself'the wonderful, best song on the album 'Climax' comments on how he is no longer married but is still able to find love.

I'd give this album an 8/10!

An example of his music masterpiece.

Album Reviews - Fun. - Some Nights

Fun. has taken the world by storm with they're amazingly catchy song 'We are Young'. In trying to follow up that success they have released their 2nd album. That's right 2nd, I am as shocked as you that they had a previous album that I did not know!

Many of the songs have very deep lyrics in this album, for example they cover topics such as his mother's death, betrayal and loneliness!

Although I have not written much in this review, all i can say is, if you like 'We are Young' you will like this album. It's so hard to not like the catchy tunes and lyrics that are humorous and oddly moving. 'But most nights I stay in and think about my Mum'

I'd give this album and 8/10 and strongly recommend you treat your ears to it!

X & Y - The Greatest Album?

Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin and his fellow members.
In my opinion as a music lover, Coldplay are one of the greatest bands to have graced the earth. They're lyrics are meaningful, their music is chilled and its just a revelation to listen to their album X & Y.

I must have this album on repeat at least once every couple of days and I'm still not bored of it. But I do know every lyric to every song.

However, I am a bit dissapointed with their new music in their Mylo Xyloto album. This is because I believe they have tried to appeal to a more mainstream crowd instead of their usual loyal followers. But it does have a few decent tracks on it 'Up in Flames' 'Paradise' 'Charlie Brown' 'Princess of China' 'Major Minus'.

But in their X & Y album there is not one bad song! You could have it on shuffle and still love it because I just can't get over how good it actually is.
If you love coldplay as much as me post your favourite song in the comments section on the home page!

If you haven't given the whole album a chance, you must! I 100% guarantee you'll enjoy it.

Radiohead - The Most Consistent Top Band?

The five members of Radiohead.

Now, I know readers, I know.. it's a very strong statement but if you actually listen to these songs produced by the magnificent band Radiohead you'd agree with me.
This band has an ability to keep up the level of fantastic songs for nearly 30 years! Incredible! The first album was released in 1993 and this contains some of my favourite Radiohead songs. Such as 'creep'. However I think over time they have somehow improved. Its not just the sound of their music that is good, its the writing. The lyrics are very meaningful and they have a subtle way of adding different sounds into each song. For example, listen to '15 step'.
They're absolutely outstanding to watch live as they sound exactly the same as recording. Credit goes to Thom Yorke who is a superb front man with a beautiful voice.
I strongly recommend getting the best hits compilation album. 2 discs of pure joy. The quality of songs is incredible and I'd also recommend getting their 2nd most recent album 'In Rainbows' I couldn't find one bad track on it.
Now I know Radiohead are a strange band, they don't really have a genre but if it would, it would be alternative, very alternative. However, I want you to try them out for me. I can almost guarantee you'll be amazed.

One example of how good they are live, 'Bodysnatchers'.

England's Euro 2012 Song Is...

Rubbish again.

My beloved readers, England really haven't thought hard on their 'patriotic' song for the Euro 2012 Championships. They decided to get Chris Kamara, the guy that says 'Unbelievable Jeff'' to sing it. Now he's not a singer, he's an ex footballer. And this really shows as soon as you hear it.

Even though I have a lot of love for the guy who is very funny on Gillette Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports and he was even on 8 out of 10 cats this week. But yet I cant help losing respect for the guy. Even though he is probably taking it as a joke, it is just a rubbish song and that isn't going to inspire us to win the Euros!

On the other hand, the song is for charity so you gotta respect the guy for trying to raise money, but with the quality of the song I don't think they'll be breaking the bank.

For the World Cup in 2014 I think we all know what we need to do. Call back New Order and John Barnes and get them to do an updated version of the England classic 'World in Motion'.

I am off now, until next time!

                                    VS

Various Cruelties!

This band has completely taken over my iPod this week and you know what.. I havent heard my iPod complain once!

Firstly the lead singers voice is incredible. It has a kind of Maverick Sabre twang to it and his tone is just so perfect for the Indie music follower such as myself.

The lyrics are superb as are the tunes in the background. It is impossible to listen to their song 'Neon Truth' and not singing it for at least the next week!

I am actually appauled at myself for not hearing of these sooner. Because I truly believe this band will be something very big in the near future. And if they are not I'll personally publicize them myself! They have performed on 'Later Live with Jools Holland' and were absolutely superb. I reccomend checking that clip out on youtube!

They have only been formed for around a year and have already supported 'The Vaccines' 'Mumford and Sons' and 'Kasabian'. And they are a supposed acquired taste of music, describing themselves as 'Motown Pop' but in my opinion this band is the band to watch.

Ben Howard Review

This is Ben Howard.
Welcome Bloggers.

I am Senor Musica and for some strange reason this is my first post. Now from my name I know it is hard to tell that I will be reviewing music.

Today's topic will be the pure musical talent of Ben Howard.

This 24 year old song writer has taken the UK by storm recently and its not surprising. His distinctive voice and meaningful lyrics make the perfect 'chill out' songs.

I have known about Ben for a long time and it really delights me that after a year of hard work and quality music he has became a well known name in the UK. He has mustered up over 8million views on his VEVO YouTube channel and has delighted Radio 1 listeners with his superb covers and outstanding live voice. His cover of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen is an absolute delight and i strongly recommend you listening to it as in my opinion is far better than the original.

His album 'Every Kingdom' is superb. He goes from the up tempo, stamp your feet catchy songs. To the slow, meaningful songs that are all a delight to listen to. For example 'The Wolves' is a really good upbeat song to get you singing along and nodding your head, while the song 'Old Pine' is essentially a break up song and has more of a slow, chilled vibe to it.

I have listened to his music for his good year and I am yet to find a bad song. He has a soulfulness in his voice that calms me down and his talent for song writing never lets the song get old.

I strongly recommend downloading his album 'Every Kingdom' the highlights of this album being 'Only Love' 'Old Pine' 'The Wolves' and 'The Fear'.
